The submission of candidacies for the December 2023 presidential election in the DRC began on Saturday September 9. The Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) opened the office for receiving and processing applications, marking the official start of the presidential race.
In this crucial period for Congolese politics, several candidates have already submitted their candidacy. Senator Augustin Matata Ponyo, from the Leadership and Governance for Development Party (LGD), was one of the first to present himself. His submission of candidacy was followed by that of Constant Mutamba of the Progressive Dynamics (Dypro) and Rex Kazadi, independent candidate.
Female candidates are also expected to enter the presidential race. Marie Josée Ifoku, of the political party Alliance pour des Elites pour un Nouveau Congo (AENC), who was already a candidate in the 2018 presidential election, should be one of these women ready to take on this challenge.
However, despite the opening of the office for receiving applications, part of the opposition, in particular the Ecidé party (Commitment to Citizenship and Development), continues to insist on the need for an external audit of the electoral register. . This request highlights concerns about the transparency and integrity of the electoral process.
