Violent clashes in Goma: several deaths and persistent tensions in North Kivu

The violent clashes that occurred in Goma, North Kivu, on August 30, 2023, caused the death of several civilians and a police officer. In a press release, the spokesperson for the 34th military region, Lieutenant Colonel Guillaume Ndjike, gave a provisional assessment of these clashes. According to him, the clashes took place between the Congolese army and suspected followers of a sect known as Wazalendo.
