“Sanctions expected: The governor of Kinshasa under fire for financial mismanagement”

Sanctions against Governor Gentiny Ngobila Mbaka for mismanagement of Kinshasa’s finances

The Court of Auditors recently invited the Kinshasa Provincial Assembly to take sanction measures against the city’s governor, Gentiny Ngobila Mbaka, for mismanagement. This decision follows the non-submission of the draft edict on accountability for the 2022 budget year on the part of the governor.

According to the First President of the Court of Auditors, Jimmy Munganga, this negligence constitutes a management error in accordance with article 214 of the Law relating to public finances. This situation highlights a lack of transparency in the financial management of the city of Kinshasa, thus fueling criticism of the governor.

This is not the first time that Gentiny Ngobila has found himself at the center of controversy regarding his management of the city. Recently, he was confronted by Godé Mpoyi, former president of the Kinshasa Provincial Assembly, regarding allegations of lack of financial transparency. This confrontation led to the ousting of Godé Mpoyi from his post.

This invitation from the Court of Auditors to take sanctions against Gentiny Ngobila demonstrates the importance of accountability in the management of public funds. Citizens have the right to know how their taxes are used and their expectations of leaders are legitimate.

It is essential that the competent authorities take appropriate measures to ensure sound and transparent management of public finances. Sanctions, if applied, would send a strong message about the obligation of political leaders to be accountable and to respect the rules in force regarding financial management.

In conclusion, the Court of Auditors asks the Kinshasa Provincial Assembly to sanction Governor Gentiny Ngobila Mbaka for not having submitted his draft edict on accountability. This case highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in the management of public funds. It is essential that concrete actions are taken to ensure sound and transparent financial management for the benefit of all citizens.
