“Relentless justice: Nadine Ombeni Lalekera sentenced to the death penalty for the murder of a child”

New death sentence: Nadine Ombeni Lalekera found guilty of murder of child

In a judgment rendered on Saturday August 5, the High Court (TGI) of Bukavu (South Kivu) sentenced Nadine Ombeni Lalekera to the death penalty for the murder of a child. This tragic event took place during a blatant fairground hearing at the Bagira municipal house.

The case dates back to Wednesday August 2, when two children from the same family, aged 3 and 5, were kidnapped. Unfortunately, the 3-year-old boy was found in a comatose state, drugged, inside the house next door. Furthermore, the body of the 5-year-old girl was found mutilated at the edge of the river. Particularly shocking elements were noted, such as the absence of tongue and genitals on the child’s body.

Following these macabre discoveries, Nadine Ombeni and her husband were apprehended and taken to court. During the trial, the husband was ultimately acquitted due to lack of evidence. As for Nadine Ombeni, she was found guilty of the child’s murder and sentenced to the death penalty. In addition to this final sentence, she will have to pay a sum of 50,000 USD in damages.

This verdict was welcomed with satisfaction by the population of the urban commune of Bagira, who see in this conviction a strong message sent to child kidnappers and murderers. Indeed, it is essential that tough sentences are imposed to deter such horrific acts and protect the lives of the most vulnerable.

However, the condemned woman’s lawyer announced that she had filed an appeal, thus leaving doubt about a possible review of the judgment. A case to be continued, particularly for the victim’s loved ones who are awaiting implacable justice.

Beyond this specific case, this affair highlights the harsh reality of violence against children in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is essential that preventive measures and concrete actions be put in place to fight against these barbaric acts and protect Congolese youth.

In conclusion, the death penalty sentencing Nadine Ombeni Lalekera for the murder of a child is a strong signal sent to kidnappers and murderers. However, it is crucial to continue to fight against violence against children in the DRC and to put in place prevention and education measures to protect Congolese youth.
