The armed forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda recently achieved a significant victory in the fight against ADF-MTM terrorists. During clashes in the Mwakika valley, located in the Beni territory, in North Kivu, they managed to get their hands on several ADF-MTM supply tankers. According to security sources, these supply tankers were supplying drugs to the terrorists.
These clashes also led to the capture of two rebel leaders, Abuakasi and Amigo, who were injured during the fighting. The latter had been sent by their leader, Moussa Baluku, to obtain medicines in Beni and Butembo. The armed forces also neutralized other ADF leaders, including Sheikh Umari Muhindo, imam of the Taqwa mosque, accused of recruiting collaborators for the ADF-MTM.
In total, 14 suspected members of the ADF-MTM, including two women who are believed to be suppliers of drugs to the terrorists, were arrested by the armed forces and will be brought to justice in Beni.
It is important to emphasize that the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) are an armed group of Ugandan origin affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) organization. They regularly commit abuses in eastern DRC, causing suffering and endangering the lives of local populations.
This successful operation by the coalition of the armed forces of the DRC and Uganda represents a significant step forward in the fight against the ADF-MTM. It demonstrates the commitment of both countries to end the terrorist threat in the region and to protect the civilian population.
It is essential to continue security and cooperation efforts between countries in the region to definitively eradicate terrorist groups and ensure stability in eastern DRC.
