“Loss of control on the internet: How to find constructive and respectful speech online”

Internet, a universe in perpetual evolution, a world where information spreads at the speed of light. But in this virtual immensity, there reigns a drift which invades our lives: the loss of control and self-mastery in speaking and expressing an opinion or an opinion. Barriers have been shattered and everyone can now share their ideas without thinking about the consequences.

On social networks, we find these new heroes of the virtual world, who discuss real subjects but whose debates are often at a low level. They are behind their keyboard, ready to defend their ideas without worrying about solid arguments. The easy insult becomes their favorite weapon to counter their opponents.

Some display their first and last name, thus bringing shame on their family and the education they received. Others hide behind anonymity to carry out their digital blows. But all of them have in common that they have learned to sell their services to actors on the public and political scene who, for whatever reason, resemble them.

Terrible sentences, written with disregard for grammar and spelling, publish equally horrible ideas. And these ideas are found on our smartphones, every day. We’re tired of blocking, but there always seems to be more.

Social networks are not a private room, but an immense canvas that touches all the ends of the earth. Anything published online is forever, and so it’s important to keep that in mind. Our words and actions online will always catch up with us.

Congolese, let’s stop insulting each other on the web. We all expose our ignorance and lack of respect. Let’s return to a constructive debate, to polite and reasoned exchanges. Let’s use the internet as a tool for sharing and disseminating relevant information, rather than as a virtual battleground where insult reigns.

It’s time to take back control of our words and actions online. Let’s be civilized, respectful and constructive. The Internet can be a powerful tool if used responsibly. Let’s not let drift become the norm, let’s set a good example and make this digital space a place of enriching exchanges for all.
