In a sad event which took place on Sunday August 27, an armed attack attributed to alleged CODECO militiamen caused the death of fourteen people in the lakeside village of Gobu, located in the territory of Djugu, in Ituri.

According to information provided by the administrator of the Djugu territory, Colonel Mapela Mviniama, among the victims are a soldier of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), four CODECO attackers and nine innocent civilians. Injuries were also recorded, including two soldiers and two civilians, who were evacuated to the Mugunga medical center.

The attack caused a shock wave in the region, and the bodies of the victims were gradually repatriated to Tchomia, the nearest town. Thanks to the intervention of the army, the situation is currently under control, but the threat of militias remains a major concern for the security of local populations.

This latest tragic event highlights the importance of maintaining constant vigilance in the Ituri region and strengthening efforts to neutralize armed groups that continue to sow terror among civilians.
