“To bring peace to Lubumbashi, the challenges of reconciliation between the young people of the UDPS and UNAFEC”

News: The challenges of bringing peace between the young people of the UDPS and UNAFEC in Lubumbashi

Clashes between young people from the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) and the National Union of Federalists of Congo (UNAFEC) in Lubumbashi have reached a worrying level. Faced with this escalation of violence, measures must be taken to bring both sides to their senses.

It is in this context that a meeting was held led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior and Security, Peter Kazadi Kankonde, who is currently in Lubumbashi. The meeting, which took place in the banquet hall of the Haut-Katanga governorate, was an opportunity to recall the common history between the two political parties, highlighting the names of Étienne Tshisekedi and Antoine Gabriel Kyungu wa Kumwanza.

“I would like to recall that Étienne Tshisekedi Wa Mulumba, Gabriel Kyungu Wa Kumwanza were pioneers of the UDPS, they took together the great decision, under the most bloodthirsty dictatorship that Africa has known, to found the UDPS in the goal of bringing democracy to this country, establishing the rule of law based on the principles of good governance, that was their fight,” Peter Kazadi declared during the meeting.

The governor of Haut-Katanga, Jacques Kyabula Katwe, also took part in this meeting and called on the two parties to preserve living together and avoid behavior harmful to the population. He stressed the importance of preserving the general interest and not compromising the security of citizens.

For some time now, clashes between young people from the UDPS and UNAFEC have become commonplace in Lubumbashi, thus disturbing the tranquility of the residents. These confrontations have even resulted in deaths, as was the case during a dispute over the management of a tax in the Kilobelobe district, causing the death of two people. Since this incident, tension has remained palpable between young people from the two political parties.

It is necessary to find solutions to put an end to this violence and preserve the cohesion of society. It is essential that leaders of both parties commit to peacefully resolving their differences and preventing further clashes. The security of the population must be an absolute priority, and each individual must contribute to maintaining a climate of peace and mutual respect.

In conclusion, the situation between young people from the UDPS and UNAFEC in Lubumbashi is worrying, but measures are being put in place to bring peace. The meeting led by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, as well as the call from the governor of Haut-Katanga to preserve the general interest, are encouraging signs. Hopefully these efforts will lead to a peaceful resolution of tensions and a return to stability in the city of Lubumbashi.
