News: Civil servants and state agents demand salary reform
Civil servants and state agents in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are mobilized to ask the government to convene meetings on salary policy before the end of 2023. Gathered during general assemblies organized by the Synergie des trade union and social organizations in the DRC, they express their dissatisfaction with the non-compliance with the commitments made by the government concerning their socio-professional conditions.
The officials criticize the government for not having respected the agreements reached during the meetings of Mdudi I and II as well as Mbuela Lodje I and II. They demand a reduction in the salary scale of members of government and other institutions in order to allocate resources for a dignified salary scale for all state agents.
The spokesperson for Synergy, Jean-Bosco Puna, calls for the mobilization of all civil servants and state agents across the country to force the government to grant a new salary scale before December 2023. The civil servants also insist on the depoliticization of businesses and public administrations, including at the territorial level.
This request for salary reform reflects the difficulties encountered by civil servants and state agents in the DRC. Low salaries do not allow them to meet their basic needs, and they demand fairness and uniformity of social benefits for all.
The question of civil servants’ salary policy is central to guaranteeing their motivation and satisfaction at work. Fair and equitable remuneration is essential to ensure the efficiency and commitment of state agents, and thus contribute to the development of the country.
This mobilization also demonstrates the importance of social dialogue between unions and the government to find solutions that meet the expectations of civil servants. The discussion on salary policy will make it possible to discuss the demands of civil servants and find lasting solutions to improve their working conditions.
In a context where civil servants play a key role in achieving the country’s development objectives, it is crucial to respond to their legitimate demands and value their contribution. Respecting commitments made with the union bench and implementing appropriate salary reforms will be decisive elements in strengthening trust and collaboration between the government and civil servants.
The mobilization of civil servants and state agents in the DRC for salary reform is a strong signal which recalls the importance of guaranteeing decent and fair working conditions for all workers.. It is essential that the government takes into account these legitimate demands and engages in constructive dialogue to find just and lasting solutions. Improving the working conditions of civil servants will contribute not only to their well-being, but also to the effectiveness and efficiency of public administration, for the benefit of all Congolese society.
