Article: Towards the fall of the Sama government following the deadly repression in Goma
The national deputy of Ituri, Gratien Iracan, a prominent member of Moïse Katumbi’s party, began proceedings aimed at dismissing the Sama government by filing an interpellation with the office of the National Assembly. This initiative aims to shed light on the carnage that took place in Goma on August 30 during the brutal repression of a demonstration by the religious group “Wazalendu” by the Republican Guard.
In a letter addressed to the Office of the National Assembly, MP Iracan expresses his desire to know the truth about the events that occurred during this demonstration in Goma. He asks the Prime Minister for explanations on the reasons for the massacre of several Congolese citizens, as well as on the attacks against a church and a confessional radio station.
Shocking videos showing Congolese killed by armed elements identified as belonging to the police have circulated on the Internet. A few days after these events, a government delegation composed of the Ministers of the Interior, Defense and Human Rights went to the site to assess the situation.
As a representative of the people, MP Iracan legitimately raises questions about what really happened in Goma on August 30, 2023. He demands accountability for the reason for this mass massacre and for the attacks directed against a church and a faith-based radio station.
Meanwhile, in Goma, the trial of the alleged perpetrators of the deadly repression continues. The Congolese government, having condemned these acts committed by the army, is committed to shedding light on this matter. The victims are demanding justice.
By initiating this impeachment procedure, MP Iracan wants the truth to be revealed and responsibilities to be established. He calls on the national and international community to closely follow this procedure to prevent the case from being closed. It is an opportunity to denounce the lack of transparency and parliamentary control in favor of the people, and to recall that the voice of the people must be heard and respected.
The final decision will rest with the National Assembly, which will determine whether the Sama government should be dismissed because of its alleged responsibility for this deadly repression. In the meantime, it is essential that justice is served to the victims and that the perpetrators are punished in accordance with the law.
The approach taken by MP Iracan highlights the importance of the role of parliamentarians in protecting the rights of the people and in demanding transparency and accountability from the government. Let us hope that this inquiry will lead to the truth and appropriate measures to prevent such tragic events from happening again in the future.
