News: Augustin Matata Ponyo unveils his company project for the 2023 presidential election in the DRC

In a speech delivered from the town of Kindu, Augustin Matata Ponyo, former Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), presented his social project in view of the next presidential election scheduled for December 2023.

Under the name “Reconnect with your destiny of greatness”, this ambitious project aims to reform the Congolese state and modernize it in order to make it competitive and efficient. The former head of government stressed the urgency of restoring peace and security in the country by building an effective army, an efficient police force and improving relations with neighboring countries.

Matata Ponyo also wants to revive the industrialization of the DRC, which has seen a decline in recent years. To do this, he plans to considerably increase the budget allocated to the army, to double the funds intended for the social conditions of the military and to make a military career more attractive.

Another key aspect of the project is infrastructure development, with an emergency plan aimed at connecting the different regions of the country. Matata Ponyo also plans administrative reforms to improve the efficiency of public administration.

Funding for this program is estimated at 90 billion US dollars over 5 years, with an annual budget of nearly 18 billion dollars. Matata Ponyo plans to mobilize these funds through increased tax pressure, economic reforms and a fight against corruption.

This social project aims to improve the quality of life of the Congolese by increasing the level of development of the country. Matata Ponyo hopes to position the DRC among middle-income economies and offer new opportunities to citizens.

By presenting his project, Matata Ponyo clearly displays his presidential ambitions and seeks to convince Congolese voters to place their trust in him. It remains to be seen how this program will be received by the population and other political actors in the country. The next presidential election will in any case be a key moment for the future of the DRC.
