The submission of the 2024 draft budget within the constitutional deadline was welcomed by the President of the National Assembly, Christophe Mboso. During his speech to open the September budget session, he expressed satisfaction that the FY 2022 Finance Act Accountability Bill was also tabled at the same time.

This timely filing demonstrates the rigor and transparency of the national executive. Christophe Mboso stressed the importance of respecting constitutional procedures and welcomed this collaboration between the government and the National Assembly.

For his part, the President of the Senate, Bahati Lukwebo, highlighted the social difficulties encountered in the application of the 2023 budget. He also called on the government to use the constitutional mechanism for tabling the amending finance law to correct budgetary discrepancies.

Bahati Lukwebo also expressed concern about the decline in the purchasing power of the population. He hoped that the 2024 budget would be drawn up taking into account the economic situation and forecasts regarding foreign currencies, in order to guarantee the well-being of citizens.

The September budget session will be the shortest of the legislature, closing a month early to allow parliamentarians to devote themselves to the electoral campaign. The work of this session will mainly focus on the examination of the law on accountability and the 2024 budget, tabled simultaneously.
