The first company visited was the “Nuru” photovoltaic power plant, located in the heart of the city of Goma. This impressive company provides electrical energy to more than 3,500 customers in the region. The Director General of Nuru, Archip Lobo, expressed his gratitude to the Congolese government and ANAPI for the benefits granted, such as exemption from import VAT and property taxes. These benefits allowed the company to reduce project costs and provide access to affordable electricity.
The Minister of State then went to Okapi, a corn flour manufacturing factory based in Goma. The company’s Managing Director, Bernard Bahati, highlighted the benefits of the exemptions granted by the Congolese government, allowing the company to import machines without constraints and operate for five years without paying taxes. This situation will promote the rapid growth of the company.
The visit concluded with the discovery of Mount Gibeon, another large corn flour manufacturing factory. Mount Gibeon leaders welcomed the government’s desire to support local entrepreneurship through exemptions. They underlined the importance of these incentive measures to develop the economy and create jobs in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
A common desire for development:
Beyond the satisfaction expressed regarding the achievements of the beneficiary companies, the Minister of State wanted to highlight the bravery of the Kivu people. Despite the constraints linked to insecurity and natural disasters, local entrepreneurs in North Kivu demonstrate a clear desire to contribute to the development of the country. Judith Suminwa recalled that the government had put in place incentive measures within the framework of the business climate to promote investment and encourage entrepreneurship.
