Leopards of the DRC: Resounding victory against the Nile Crocodiles in the CAN 2023 qualifiers

The Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo shone in their final match of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, securing a convincing victory against the Nile Crocodiles. The final score of 2-0 testifies to the domination of the Leopards on the field.

The meeting, which took place at the Martyrs de la Pentecost stadium in Kinshasa, got off to a flying start. From the 8th minute of play, Charles Pickel found Théo Bongonda in the area to score a superb goal with a flat right foot. This first early goal gave confidence to the Congolese team and set the tone for the match.

Despite a few missed opportunities on both sides, the Nile Crocodiles failed to find the back of the net. For their part, the Leopards doubled the lead in the second half thanks to the entry into play of Fiston Kalala Mayele, who scored the second goal in the 87th minute.

This victory allows the DRC to finish at the top of Group I of the qualifiers, despite a difficult start with two consecutive defeats. The Leopards showed their determination and were able to get back up to qualify for the prestigious African Cup of Nations.

The crowd, which came in large numbers to the Martyrs stadium, was a real support for the Leopards, singing and encouraging the team throughout the match. The presence of the Tshisekedi presidential couple also added a special atmosphere to this meeting.

With this qualification for CAN 2023, the DRC joins Mauritania as representatives of Group I. Both teams will have the opportunity to proudly represent their country during this long-awaited continental competition.

Congratulations to the Leopards of the DRC for their victory and their qualification for the African Cup of Nations! We can’t wait to see them shine on the field during this major competition.
