Access to electricity is a crucial issue for the development of the Democratic Republic of Congo. However, despite the efforts of various actors, many Congolese populations continue to live in darkness. It is in this context that the Mwangaza Network launched a series of consultations to raise awareness among stakeholders on the need to allocate a share of the energy produced by private operators to the areas where their installations are deployed.
The Mwangaza Network, a civil society structure engaged in the fight for access to electricity, maintains that the State must promote access to electricity for all. While many independent energy producers have appeared in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Mwangaza Network believes that it is necessary to put in place clear rules to guarantee equitable distribution of energy and improve energy service. in all the countries.
Despite an installed electrical energy capacity of around 3,000 MW, the situation of Congolese consumers is struggling to improve. The Mwangaza Network emphasizes that in the absence of a clear guide, private operators do not feel forced to share their energy with local communities. This is why the Mwangaza Network is campaigning for the introduction of an electricity distribution quota based on article 196 of the specifications, which talks about supplying local populations.
The objective of this initiative is to encourage the Congolese State to create the necessary conditions for private operators to contribute to improving people’s access to energy. Using existing legal provisions, in particular article 196 of the specifications, the Mwangaza Network proposes to set up an electricity distribution quota system which would ensure equitable distribution of the energy produced.
This approach is part of a sustainable development perspective, by promoting access to electricity for all Congolese. Indeed, electricity plays an essential role in many aspects of daily life, such as education, health, agriculture and entrepreneurship. By improving access to electricity, the country will be able to stimulate economic and social development, while reducing inequalities and improving the quality of life of the population.
The Mwangaza Network hopes that these consultations will raise awareness among all stakeholders, including energy producers and public authorities, on the importance of allocating a share of the energy produced to serve the areas where the installations are deployed . By working together, it is possible to overcome the challenges related to access to electricity and transform the energy reality of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In conclusion, access to electricity is a major challenge in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but solutions exist. The Mwangaza Network positions itself as an actor engaged in the fight for access to electricity for all Congolese. By raising awareness among stakeholders and proposing concrete measures, it helps to advance the issue of electrification in the country. It is essential to support these initiatives and promote access to electricity as a fundamental right for the development and well-being of all.
