The Pona Congo Network: pay tribute to the victims of the Goma tragedy and condemn the killings in the east of the country
On Thursday, September 7, the Pona Congo Network, a committed citizen structure, organized a meditation on Place Genecost in Kinshasa to pay tribute to the victims of the Goma tragedy. This initiative aims not only to honor the memory of the people who died during this heinous act, but also to strongly condemn the killings taking place in the eastern part of the country.
During this ceremony, participants expressed their indignation at the killing of civilians in Goma, as well as their disapproval of the violent actions that are recurrently perpetrated in this region. Mino Bopomi, member of the Pona Congo Network and national coordinator of the Filimbi Citizen Movement, declared: “We cannot tolerate that foreign forces, like the RDF, put the population into mourning on a daily basis. Likewise, we cannot accept that the FARDC , responsible for protecting the lives of citizens, engage in acts of massacre and pillage. We strongly condemn these acts.”
The Pona Congo network also calls for accountability for all those responsible for these killings, including military governor Constant N’dima, who is the commander of operations in the North Kivu province, which is under a state of siege. According to Mino Bopomi, the governor and all those who gave the order to kill civilians must be brought to justice.
It should be remembered that the Goma tragedy occurred on August 30 during a military intervention during a demonstration organized by the Uwezo wa Neno/Wazalendo messianic sect. The acts of violence that followed resulted in numerous casualties, sparking outrage and anger among the population.
Military justice is already in action to investigate these events. Six people, including two high-ranking army officers, have been called to court and face charges of crimes against humanity, willful destruction and incitement to acts contrary to discipline.
This tragedy in Goma highlights once again the importance of prosecuting those responsible for acts of violence and ensuring that justice is done for the victims. The Pona Congo Network continues to mobilize to demand an end to impunity and promote peace and security in the east of the country.
