The strike by health workers in Maniema continues, creating a worrying situation for the local population. According to the coordination of the inter-union of these state agents, the strike will continue as long as the Congolese state has not responded to their demands.
At the heart of their demands are the payment of the works of Bibwa 3, according to the established schedule, as well as the payment of the salaries of the agents who have been on hold for a long time. They also require the payment of the additional bonus and the admission of other agents recruited under different statutes.
The strike, which began in August, led to malfunctions in many health facilities in the province, thus depriving the population of adequate access to care.
The situation is all the more worrying as reports indicate that the rate of cholera has increased in the province of South Kivu, putting the health of the inhabitants at risk.
It is essential that the Congolese government take swift action to respond to the legitimate demands of health workers. Their work is essential to ensure quality care for the population and their prolonged strike only further aggravates the already precarious situation in the province.
The people of Maniema deserve to be able to access adequate health services and the government must take all necessary measures to resolve this conflict quickly and in a manner satisfactory to all parties involved.
It is time to prioritize the well-being of the population and do everything in our power to guarantee accessible and quality health care in the province of Maniema.
