The crucial role of scientific research and technological innovation in the development of a nation
In his recent communication at the 110th meeting of the Council of Ministers, the President of the Republic Félix Tshisekedi underlined the importance of scientific research and technological innovation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He recalled the duty of the State to guarantee private initiative and to protect and promote national expertise.
President Tshisekedi expressed his support for Congolese researchers who have distinguished themselves by their inventiveness and their contribution to improving the living conditions of their compatriots. He specifically asked the government to take measures to support these innovators, including integrating them into the national economy and providing them with financial support.
The minutes of the meeting also mention the importance of the scientific dimension in the definition and implementation of sectoral policies. The President called on the leaders of state institutions to integrate scientific research into their decision-making processes, in order to respond to the national and international challenges of the moment.
This communication comes following the first edition of the Conclave of Congolese scientific genius, which was held in Kinshasa from August 14 to 24. Organized by the Ministry of Scientific Research and Technological Innovation, this event honored Congolese researchers, both those working on the national territory and those evolving abroad.
The theme of the conclave, “Scientific research and technological innovation, brain of the development of a Nation”, underlines the importance of these fields in the advancement of the DRC. It is an opportunity to recognize and promote the work of Congolese researchers, while encouraging new initiatives and discoveries.
In this perspective, President Tshisekedi insisted on the need for the government to take concrete measures to support scientific research and technological innovation. In particular, he asked the ministers concerned to promote and support research centers within higher education and university establishments, in order to improve the quality of services offered to the community.
