Title: Provincial consultations in the Greater Kasai area for the prevention of community and customary conflicts
Introduction :
The interim governor of Kasaï-Oriental, Julie Kalenga Kabongo, recently launched provincial consultations in the Grand Kasaï space. The objective of these consultations is to develop a National Policy for the Prevention and Resolution of Community and Customary Conflicts (PNPRCC). For three days, delegates from the five provinces of the region – Kasaï, Kasaï-Central, Kasaï-Oriental, Lomami and Sankuru – will meet to discuss and propose solutions aimed at ending customary conflicts in the region.
The issues of the provincial consultations:
For Governor Kalenga Kabongo, these consultations are crucial, as they aim to resolve the customary tensions and conflicts that persist in the Greater Kasai region. She stresses the importance of arriving at concrete proposals and finding lasting solutions before the elections scheduled for December this year. Indeed, stability and peace in the region are essential to ensure a transparent and peaceful electoral process.
Participation of local actors:
The provincial consultations bring together various local actors, such as customary chiefs, executives from the provincial divisions of the interior and customary affairs, as well as experts. The aim is to take into account the knowledge and experience of local actors in the development of conflict prevention policy. Their active participation will make it possible to create suitable and sustainable solutions, taking into account the cultural and customary specificities of the region.
Towards a conflict prevention policy:
The PNPRCC which will be drawn up at the end of these provincial consultations will constitute a reference framework for preventing and resolving community and customary conflicts in the Grand Kasaï area. It will provide practical guidance and tools for local leaders to deal effectively with tensions and disputes, promoting dialogue and the search for peaceful solutions.
Conclusion :
The provincial consultations launched by Governor Kalenga Kabongo in the Greater Kasai area mark an important step in the prevention of community and customary conflicts. By promoting the participation of local actors and proposing appropriate solutions, these consultations bear witness to the region’s desire to promote peace and stability. The future PNPRCC will be an essential tool to prevent conflicts and promote the harmonious coexistence of different communities in Greater Kasai.
