“Fighting unemployment in the DRC: the operational directory of trades, a concrete response for effective job creation”

Combating unemployment in the Democratic Republic of Congo: developing an operational directory of professions

The high unemployment rate which particularly affects young people in the Democratic Republic of Congo is a major concern for the government. In order to find effective solutions, the Minister of Vocational Training and Trades, Antoinette Kipulu Kabemba, announced the establishment of an operational directory of trades in the country.

This strategic document aims to exhaustively inventory and identify all formal and informal professions present in the Democratic Republic of Congo. By professionalizing these professions and supporting their promoters, the government hopes to create a map of existing professions and implement targeted support actions.

In addition to this mapping, the operational directory of professions will have the mission of creating a statistical database on professions and promoters, thus making it possible to implement public policies focused on the creation of a middle social class and the reduction unemployment.

Given the cross-cutting importance of this issue, a meeting will be organized under the leadership of the Prime Minister, in order to ensure collaboration with the other sectoral ministries concerned and to ensure coherent implementation of the objectives set.

This initiative is a continuation of the directives given by the President of the Republic, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi, who emphasizes the creation of paid and decent jobs. The Head of State also wishes to integrate labor market opportunities into the macroeconomic framework in order to promote the economic and social development of the country.

It is undeniable that the level of employment in a country is a sign of economic dynamism and allows the government to adjust its public policies to move towards a situation of full employment. The Congolese government, aware of this importance, is putting in place concrete measures to integrate labor market indicators into the macro-economic framework, in order to promote job creation and reduce the unemployment rate.

The establishment of an operational directory of professions in the Democratic Republic of Congo is an essential initiative in the fight against unemployment and the promotion of employment. This strategic document will make it possible to better map existing professions and put in place appropriate public policies to promote the creation of a middle social class and the reduction of unemployment
