Security in the DRC: President Tshisekedi discusses challenges and solutions with the head of MONUSCO

The security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) remains a major concern for President Félix Tshisekedi and the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the DRC (MONUSCO). During their recent meeting in Kinshasa, they discussed various topics related to security in the east of the country.

During their discussions, President Tshisekedi and the head of MONUSCO, Bintou Keita, discussed the issue of the dynamics linked to M23, an armed group active in the region. The situation in Grand Nord-Kivu and Ituri was also mentioned, as these areas are facing significant security challenges.

Separately, defense ministers from seven EAC member countries met recently to discuss maintaining the regional force in the DRC beyond its initial mandate, in order to consolidate security progress on the ground. .
