The FARDC and UPDF armed forces in joint intervention under Operation Shujaa recently announced a major victory against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group in North Kivu. An ADF middle commander, Cheick Moussa Muchebe, a Tanzanian national, was neutralized by coalition forces on August 24, 2023.
The Ugandan army also reported that this rebel commander was killed along with another ADF fighter. These joint operations made it possible to recover weapons and ammunition, thus increasing the pressure exerted on the ADF in the region.
These successes on the ground testify to the determination of the Congolese and Ugandan armed forces to eradicate the threat of the ADF in the North Kivu region. With operations underway to track down and capture ADF fighters, the joint forces are calling on them to seize the opportunity to surrender and benefit from the amnesty offered by the Ugandan government.
It is important to emphasize that these operations are not limited only to the neutralization of ADF combatants, but also to the protection of local populations. Indeed, the ADF are responsible for kidnappings, massacres and other acts of violence against civilians, which fuels instability in the region.
Through Operation “Shujaa”, the FARDC and UPDF armed forces show their commitment to protecting the population and restoring security in North Kivu. However, much remains to be done to eradicate the rebel groups once and for all and allow local communities to live in peace and stability.
In conclusion, the advances made by the FARDC and UPDF armed forces against the ADF within the framework of operation “Shujaa” are encouraging for the population of North Kivu. These joint operations demonstrate the determination of the security forces to fight against insecurity and protect civilians. It is essential to continue to support these efforts in order to guarantee security and stability in the region
