“Fluctuations in the prices of agricultural products from the DRC on international markets: coffee and cinchona bark on the rise, cocoa on the decline”

Agricultural and forestry products from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are changing on international markets during the week of August 21 to 26, 2023. Projections by experts from the National Commission for Mercurial Prices of the Ministry of Foreign Trade indicate price variations for several products.

Robusta coffee is expected to see a slight increase, from 2.53 USD per kg to 2.56 USD per kg, an increase of 0.03 USD. Similarly, cinchona bark increased slightly, reaching 1.88 euro per kg against 1.87 euro the previous week, an increase of 0.01 euro.

Papain, for its part, is experiencing a price increase, going from 16 euros per kg to 16.17 euros per kg, i.e. a variation of 0.17 euro. Totaquina powder follows this trend, going from 54.60 euros per kg to 55.20 euros per kg, an increase of 0.6 euro.

Quinine salt also recorded a price increase, going from 92.82 euros per kg to 93.84 euros per kg, a difference of 1.02 euros. The rauwolfia follows this trend with an increase of 0.01 euro, going from 1.55 euro per kg to 1.56 euro per kg.

On the other hand, Arabica coffee and cocoa recorded a drop in price. Arabica coffee goes from 2.67 USD per kg to 2.60 USD per kg, a decrease of 0.07 USD. Cocoa saw a slight drop of USD 0.03 from USD 1.93 per kg to USD 1.90 per kg.

These price variations underline the importance of the market for agricultural and forestry products from the DRC on the international scene. Producers and exporters must take these fluctuations into account to adjust their business strategy and maximize their income.
