The Integrated Agricultural Growth Project in the Great Lakes (PICAGL) continues to make progress in South Kivu. During a workshop organized in Bukavu, the project partners validated the Annual Work Plan and Budget (PTBA) for the 2023-2024 financial year. With a budget of USD 20,821,466.6, this AWPB aims to implement the activities planned in the project appraisal document.
The AWPB comprises four key project components. The first component concerns the development of agricultural value chains, with a budget of USD 862,831.1. Then, the second component is cost-shared grants, with a budget of USD 2,442,615.3. The third component focuses on regional integration, with a budget of USD 1,354,941.7. Finally, the fourth component focuses on other activities, with a budget of USD 3,603,693.9.
As part of this AWPB, the PICAGL project plans to organize mass natural breeding campaigns, operationalize the fodder market system and acquire heifers for breeders. With regard to cassava, the project will focus on the establishment and management of primary multiplication fields, as well as the operationalization of different infrastructures such as CCTMAs, mini-dairies, rice mills and laboratories. .
Other key activities of the AWPB include the acquisition of equipment for the mechanization of rice cultivation, the establishment of sustainable marketing mechanisms for agricultural products promoted by the project, and the intensification of artificial insemination campaigns. Monitoring of household training will also be carried out, in collaboration with state agronomists, in order to assess the application of the techniques taught.
The validation of this AWPB will allow the PICAGL project to catch up on certain activities, consolidate the achievements and develop a disengagement and sustainability strategy. Indeed, the project aims not only to support agricultural, animal and fish production, but also to capitalize and sustain the achievements made.
It is important to emphasize that this AWPB will be submitted for the approval of the project steering committee, then to the World Bank for a no-objection opinion. Once validated, the project will be able to begin the execution of the planned activities.
The Integrated Agricultural Growth Project in the Great Lakes (PICAGL) therefore plays an essential role in the development of agriculture in South Kivu
