The Extraordinary Congress of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) was held recently in Nganda Yalha, marking an important turning point in the political news of the Democratic Republic of Congo. During this colorful ceremony, Felix Tshisekedi was officially confirmed as a candidate for the presidential election of December 2023.

Organized in the presence of combatants and senior executives of the UDPS, as well as members of the allied parties of the Sacred Union, the congress saw the remarkable participation of the President of the Senate, Pr Bahati Lukwebo, the Secretary General of the UDPS Kibasa, and that of the UNC, Billy Kambale, among others.

During this congress, various resolutions were taken, including that of elevating Félix Tshisekedi to the rank of “High Political Reference Authority” of the party and to renew his mandate as head of the UDPS for the next five years. These resolutions will be implemented by the secretary general of the party, Augustin Kabuya Tshilumba, until the convocation of the next congress in charge of deciding on the modifications of the statutes of the UDPS.

Interestingly, Vital Kamhere’s UNC also nominated Felix Tshisekedi as its candidate for the December 2023 presidential election during its previous mini-congress.

This confirmation of Félix Tshisekedi’s candidacy underlines his importance and his position within the UDPS and the ongoing political union in the DRC. It also marks a key step in the preparation of the next presidential elections, which will play a decisive role in the political future of the country.

It should be noted that this political news in the DRC is arousing strong interest both nationally and internationally, as it represents a crucial moment in the democratic development of the country and the prospects for change.

It is therefore essential to closely follow the evolution of the political situation in the DRC and the next steps leading to the presidential elections of December 2023
