China, Africa Strengthen Development Cooperation: Promising New Era of Partnership
Within the framework of the ambitious “Belt and Road” initiative and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), China is committed to strengthening its collaboration with Africa in order to articulate their development. This announcement was made by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the recent BRICS summit in South Africa.
China proposes three key initiatives to support Africa in its development:
1. The initiative for supporting the industrialization of Africa: China will mobilize its cooperation resources with Africa and encourage Chinese enterprises to invest in the continent’s manufacturing sector. Cooperation on agricultural technologies, particularly in the field of seeds, will be strengthened in order to promote the transformation and upgrading of African agriculture.
3. China-Africa Talent Development Cooperation Plan: China will provide training for 500 high-performing principals and teachers of African vocational schools every year. In addition, 10,000 people will receive Chinese language and job skills training. China also plans to invite 20,000 African government officials and technical professionals to seminars to build African capacity in science, education and innovation.
Trust and cooperation between China and Africa are essential. President Xi Jinping pointed out that the next conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation will be held in China in 2024, providing a new opportunity to strengthen ties and discuss future development.
