“Total Energies delivers resettlement houses and title deeds to populations impacted by the Tilenga project in Uganda”

TOTAL Energies officially hands over resettlement houses and title deeds to populations impacted by the Tilenga project in Uganda. This important step in managing the social impacts of the project was hailed by Uganda’s Minister of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development, Ruth Nankabirwa, as a necessary measure to preserve the dignity and well-being of those forced to leave their original residence. The construction of the houses was carried out on land selected by the residents and paid for by the company, offering options from 2 to 4 bedrooms. The houses also have kitchens, VIP latrines, 5,000 liter rainwater harvesting tanks, solar lighting, landscaping and greenery in outdoor areas.

Total Energies is also committed to supporting resettled people by implementing community development programs, job training, job opportunities and economic development initiatives. According to company officials, the goal is to improve livelihoods and build the capacity of local communities in a socially responsible and sustainable way.

The Tilenga project aims to exploit oil resources responsibly. The handing over of the houses and title deeds marks a significant step in the implementation of the Tilenga project and testifies to Total Energies’ unwavering commitment to the people affected by the project. The company will therefore continue to work closely with local communities and relevant authorities to ensure a transparent and fair resettlement process.
