The Democratic Republic of Congo is preparing the presidential elections as well as the legislative elections scheduled for December 2023. Denis Kadima, President of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), led a consultation framework on Friday, June 16, 2023. During this consultation framework , the number one of the electoral center invited the candidates to these next elections to put themselves at the service of the population. Moreover, he reassured that inclusivity and transparency will be the pillars of this entire operation.
Denis Kadima thanked the political parties for their role in mobilizing in favor of the identification operation coupled with voter registration. It should be noted that this operation was carried out in just 4 months with the help of partners such as the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).
The President of the CENI stressed that the institution he heads sticks to its timetable, which avoids possible slippages. He therefore affirmed that the elections will take place on the scheduled date, December 20, 2023, and will be inclusive, transparent and credible. He also warned candidates for the 2023 elections that the members of the commission will not be able to give them preferential treatment.
In addition, the CENI has planned another framework for consultation with civil society organizations on Saturday, June 17, 2023. The purpose of this meeting was to gather the opinions of these organizations regarding the organization of the next elections.
Finally, it is important to emphasize the importance of youth mobilization in the political life of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Indeed, the UNC movement is targeting 150 national deputies for the elections next December in the DRC thanks to the mobilization of its militant youth. The movement has therefore launched a vast operation to recruit and train young executives to help it achieve this ambitious objective.
