Politics in the DRC: Martin Fayulu conditions the validation of Lamuka candidacies to the change of the electoral register
On Monday June 19, Martin Fayulu, leader of the Lamuka platform, held a press briefing to announce that the candidacies of his representatives will only be validated if the electoral roll is modified. He said it was not a boycott of the candidacy phase, but an initiative to challenge the corrupt electoral register. According to him, Lamuka will participate in the elections provided that the electoral register of the electoral center is impartial and transparent. Martin Fayulu, however, reassured the public by saying that Lamuka is ready to participate in the elections and that his song and his campaign outfit are already ready. This exit of the political opponent comes as the legislative and presidential elections in the DRC will be held on December 23, 2023.
The conditioning of the validation of the candidacies of the Lamuka platform by the change of the electoral register once again reveals the importance of this question for the political parties and actors of the electoral process in the DRC. The transparency and impartiality of the electoral register guarantee a free, fair and credible election.
In short, the position of Martin Fayulu and his Lamuka platform should not be ignored, but understood at its fair value for the improvement of the electoral process and the consolidation of democracy in the DRC.
