Lumumba Ville: An ambitious project to honor a national hero and develop infrastructure

The City of Lumumba: A development project to honor a national hero

As part of the development plan for the town of Lumumba, the Minister of Infrastructure, Alexis Gisaro, sent a delegation to Sankuru to study the facilities needed for the construction of Lumumba Ville and assess the challenges of connectivity between the different important centers of the province.

This initiative follows the concerns expressed by Senator Shé Okitundu regarding the construction of the city of Lumumba, which was created by President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi to pay tribute to the national hero Patrice Emery Lumumba.

Led by Chrysostome Ila Ngongo, Chief of Staff to Minister of State Alexis Gisaro, this delegation also includes Georges Koshi, Secretary General of the ITP, the Director General of the Bureau d’Etudes d’Aménagement et d’Urbanisme (B.E.A.U.), as well as experts from the Office des Routes and the Office des Voies de Service (OVD).

The Lumumba Ville construction project will take place in several phases, which will require the mobilization of national and international resources. Depending on the availability of resources, the priority works will be selected, starting in particular with the access roads.

Gilbert Kakonde, General Manager of the B.E.A.U., explains: “This mission is part of the operationalization of the development plan for the town of Lumumba. About a year ago, by order of the government and with the intervention of the Minister of State Alexis Gisaro Muvunyi, the B.E.A.U. was responsible for developing the development plan for the city of Lumumba to allow the realization of this new city.”

Regarding the concrete actions of this mission, Mr. Kakonde specifies: “We are going to visit the priority operations which must be undertaken in the short term within the framework of the financing provided for in the plan. We have selected some of these priority operations.”

Among the priorities, he mentions the opening up of the tourist town of Lumumba Ville and the construction of public facilities
