Title: Kibali Gold Mining is committed to preserving the environment
The preservation of nature and the environment has become a priority for Kibali Gold Mining which recently organized a panel on the theme “Environmental, social and governance factors in order to plan future events today”. The Managing Director of Kibali Gold Mining, Cyril Mutombo, spoke at this event to explain the ideal process to follow for a mine to play an important role in the protection of the environment.
The zero state study is the first step in the process and consists of determining the conditions from which mining should start. These studies must be very thorough and carried out on the ground, as well as the rivers, not only those which surround the mine, but also all the rivers of the sector to know which are the species which must be protected and the zones not to be impacted by both direct and indirect pollution.
The equipment used must also be non-hazardous for fauna and flora. Kibali Gold Mining uses 90% reprocessed water for the processing of its ores. This technique not only avoids contamination in the surrounding rivers, but also better management of hydraulic resources.
Mining identifies beforehand the types of impacts that it will produce and takes measures that must intervene to reduce these impacts or eliminate them so as not to disturb the local communities.
Protecting the environment is a shared responsibility that must be taken into account by all companies. Kibali Gold Mining leads by example by actively committing to environmental conservation
