Joseph Kabila back on the Congolese political scene at the dawn of the legislative and presidential elections.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the political scene is in turmoil on the eve of the legislative and presidential elections scheduled for 20 December. In this context, Joseph Kabila, former Congolese president, decided to return to the political scene. After several months of silence, Joseph Kabila recently gathered his followers to announce his intention to address the Congolese soon. This announcement comes at a crucial time for the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Indeed, the country is preparing to organize crucial elections for its future. However, opponents of President Félix Tshisekedi’s regime are calling for a reform of the Independent National Electoral Commission (Ceni), as well as a review of the judicial system. Joseph Kabila called on his people not to register on the electoral lists, a strategy which could well be followed by other opponents in the coming hours.

However, opponents of Felix Tshisekedi’s regime disagree on how to deal with these elections. Some, notably Martin Fayulu, believe that the best strategy is to call for a boycott of the elections, while others, like Katumbi or Sesanga, prefer to participate in the electoral process while calling for its reform.

Faced with this uncertain political situation, Congolese citizens are worried about their future. Lack of security, poverty and corruption are persistent problems, endangering the daily lives of Congolese.

In addition, natural disasters such as the floods in Dima-Lumbu or the tragic sinking of the tugboat Tanganyika have recently bereaved the country.

Despite everything, positive initiatives are put in place to improve the daily lives of the Congolese.

The government is tackling the difficulties of creating a business to encourage investment, and political groups such as the Nationalist Alliance for Democracy or the Union for the Nation of Matata Ponyo Mapon are created to strengthen citizen participation.

In short, Joseph Kabila’s return to the Congolese political scene highlights the political tensions that are sweeping the country a few months before the crucial elections. This is a situation that requires the involvement of all stakeholders to avoid a post-electoral crisis and to lead the Democratic Republic of Congo towards true political and economic stability.
