Population displacements in Kalonda 2, Mutuku and Muzingamaloba of the Benyamaloba groupement, Babuyu sector in Kabambare territory (Maniema province) continue to cause concern. For several weeks, about 6000 inhabitants have fled their homes because of repeated attacks perpetrated by the Batwa militia of self-proclaimed General Mundusi.
According to the report of the Local Network for the Protection of Civilians (RLPC), these attacks carried out by local and foreign armed groups have serious consequences for local communities. Attacks on people and villages, as well as the looting of livestock, are disrupting peace efforts undertaken by several partners in the region and exacerbating inter-community tensions.
Faced with this worrying situation, the displaced inhabitants took refuge in the Lubichako 1, 2 and Ngalula villages, located in the Kimbilulenge health zone, Ngandja sector, Fizi territory, in the province of South Kivu. However, the RLPC calls on the authorities to strengthen the protection mechanisms for this displaced population, in particular by providing emergency medical assistance.
It should be noted that so far, no official statement has been made by the provincial government or by the security services regarding these alarming population movements.
These events once again underline the urgency of restoring security and stability in the region. It is essential that the authorities take concrete measures to end the violence and protect vulnerable populations. International partners, for their part, must also step up their efforts to support peace and development initiatives in the region, in order to end this humanitarian crisis.
It is important that the situation in Kalonda 2, Mutuku and Muzingamaloba receives increased attention from the international community and the media, in order to raise awareness of this crisis and mobilize the necessary resources to provide emergency assistance to the displaced people. and restore security in the region
