Ugandan army commander satisfied with joint UPDF-FARDC operation against ADF in Ituri

Ugandan Army Land Force Commander, Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, recently traveled to the Irumu region of the Democratic Republic of Congo to inspect troops engaged in the joint operation against rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF).

During his visit to Boga and Tchabi, Lieutenant General Muhanga spoke about the progress made in the fight against the ADF. According to him, the efforts deployed by the two armies made it possible to dislodge the rebels in several localities, notably in Boga, Tchabi, Zunguluka and on the Idou axis.

The UPDF commander also pointed out that the troops are preparing to pursue the ADF west of the national road number 4, on the Mambasa axis, where they continue to commit abuses against the local population. He said: “We left for the second stage of our operation against the ADF on the side of Boga, Tchabi and towards Zunguluka in Ituri. And everywhere there, they fled towards the west on the side of Eringeti, Komanda axis to head towards Mambasa. But we have neutralized many of their commanders and elements.”

Lieutenant General Muhanga also underlined the importance of the support of the population in this operation. He asked the population to report the positions of the enemy in order to facilitate their neutralization.

The joint operation between the Ugandan army and the Congolese army is part of Operation Ushuja, launched to fight against the ADF in the region. This collaboration between the two armies aims to eliminate the threat posed by the ADF and restore security in the Irumu region.

This inspection visit by Lieutenant-General Muhanga confirms the commitment and determination of the Ugandan and Congolese armed forces to put an end to the presence of the ADF in the DRC. Thanks to this joint operation, significant progress has been made in the fight against the rebels, but it is essential that the efforts continue and that the support of the population is maintained to achieve the objective of peace and security in the region
