The Court of Auditors calls for sanctions against the governor of Kinshasa
In a letter addressed to the President of the Kinshasa Provincial Assembly, the Court of Auditors requested sanctions against Governor Gentiny Ngobila. The reason given is the non-filing of the draft edict on the rendering of accounts for the financial year 2022.
According to the Court of Auditors, the failure to submit this project is a violation of article 214 of the law relating to public finances. Consequently, the Provincial Assembly is called upon to take disciplinary measures against the provincial government or its members responsible for the delay observed.
This request for sanctions comes in a context where the president of the Provincial Assembly, Godé Mpoy, and the vice-governor Gérard Mulumba, also express their dissatisfaction with the management of the urban authority of Kinshasa by Gentiny Ngobila Mbaka.
This case once again highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in the management of public funds. By asking for sanctions, the Court of Auditors wishes to recall the obligation for political leaders to be accountable and to respect the financial laws in force.
It remains to be seen what the decision of the Provincial Assembly will be regarding this request for sanctions. In the meantime, this case highlights the issues related to the sound management of public finances and the need to strengthen the mechanisms of control and accountability of political authorities
