The BRICS Summit in South Africa: a key moment for international cooperation

Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde has arrived in South Africa to attend the Fifteenth BRICS Summit. His first activity during this stay was a visit to the Embassy of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Pretoria. Accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Crispin Mbadu Phanzu, he was able to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries.

The visit was an opportunity for Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde to underline the importance of this Congolese diplomatic representation in South Africa, acquired thanks to investments by the Congolese State. He also recalled the need to strengthen ties with South Africa and explore new opportunities for cooperation.

In the continuity of his activities, the Prime Minister held a meeting with Laurent Lamothe, former Haitian Prime Minister, and Sivuyile Maqungo, managing director of the company DIGILOOP specialized in innovative financing. Discussions focused on the possibilities of cooperation in the field of innovative financing, using new digital technologies. Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde said he was impressed by the technological progress made by the Congolese government and expressed his willingness to benefit from these advances to strengthen the country’s financial sovereignty.

The BRICS Summit is a unique opportunity for the Democratic Republic of Congo to strengthen its relations with the other member countries of the bloc, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. This year’s theme, enlargement to new members, highlights the importance of accelerated growth, sustainable development and inclusive multilateralism.
