In yet another deadly attack perpetrated by suspected rebels of the Democratic and Allied Forces (ADF) in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the villages Mambelenga, Pikamaibo and Mayalibo, located in Irumu territory, were the target of these attackers, Wednesday, June 14 around 4 p.m. Christophe Munyanderu, president of the NGO Convention for the Respect of Human Rights (CRDH), Irumu branch, gives an assessment of 13 civilians killed during this incursion, with several people missing.
It should be remembered that for several years, the ADF have been sowing terror in this part of the DRC, with a series of massacres having led to deaths and massive displacements of populations. Following this deadly attack, the human rights activist once again deplores the worrying security situation in this region of Ituri. He makes an urgent appeal to the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) to take energetic measures to combat these armed groups which sow desolation, mourning and desolation among the civilian populations.
Despite President Tshisekedi’s recent promise to fight against insecurity in this eastern DRC province, the security situation remains worrying, and community conflicts, several armed groups and mining looting continue to hamper the peace and development in this region.
The Fatshimétrie.org blog has also produced several articles on this issue, including:
– “DRC Mining Week: the Prime Minister encourages the development of agriculture and underlines the importance of cooperation between sectors”
– “DRC: the Independent National Electoral Commission is committed to guaranteeing inclusiveness during the elections despite the ongoing political difficulties”
– “March session at the National Assembly in the DRC: a promising legislative assessment”
– “Control of subcontracting in the DRC: regulations to encourage the emergence of the Congolese middle class”

Despite government efforts and international awareness of the security situation in this region of the country, a more proactive approach is needed to end the violence, protect civilian populations and ensure the sustainable development of this region.
