The Congolese National Police (PNC) Tanganyika recently launched a new training of trainers in community policing. Funded by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), this training was set up to strengthen the teaching skills of future trainers as well as to improve educational communication between the police and the population.

The objective of this new training is to train officers for the basic training in Proximity Police which will take place in November 2023. This training is planned for 30 PNC officers, including four women, and will take place from 14 to 20 June 2023. The subjects covered in this training of trainers concern the planning of a training action, teaching methods and procedures, communication and the assessment of training needs.

By building the capacity of Community Policing trainers, this initiative aims to improve local security governance and community stability. This 24-month project, which is part of the implementation of the “strengthening of community policing activities” project, involves the construction of infrastructure, the rehabilitation and construction of the Police Academy as well as the rehabilitation of some offices of the PNC Provincial Commissariat.

This training of trainers is a step forward in improving the work of the police and the population’s confidence in this institution. It will allow trainers to have the necessary means to acquire the knowledge and skills essential to carrying out their work with the population.
