“DRC: Morose parliamentary session, discover the other current and future news in the country!”

The National Assembly and the Senate of the Democratic Republic of Congo are preparing to close their ordinary March session today, June 15, after 90 scheduled matters, of which only 20 laws have been examined, i.e. 22% of the matters planned. Despite the revision of the Chinese contract announced by Christophe Mboso, the President of the National Assembly, at the opening of the session, only the interpellation of the director general of the National Electricity Company was debated in depth. The Tshiani and Pululu law, known as “of father and mother”, was not submitted for examination. Pending visits or reinterpretations of legal texts have also been set aside.

For three months, the National Assembly held 32 plenary sessions, debating nine non-legislative matters, three bills sent to the Senate, 57 legislative backlogs and finally 20 new matters. With only 20 subjects examined out of the 90 planned, it is clear that this work performance was not very prolific.

However, things don’t end there. Several interesting events have been taking place in the DRC lately, such as the Africa Infrastructure Investment Forum in Lomé in July which looks promising, the concert for DRC independence through the musical influences of the Messenger of peace, Fabrice Mumpfiritsa, which will be held on June 30, or the importance given to the promotion of the Congolese middle class during the ARSP business dinner in Lubumbashi. We also note Hizi’s revelation about the controversial payment of police officers to the Bisunzu Mining Company and the very worrying resurgence of the M23 as well as the current insecurity in the country. DRC Mining Week 2023, to be held in June, is expected to bring together over 1,000 local and international leaders to explore investment opportunities in the Congolese mining sector.

Finally, we would like to point out the efforts to protect the fauna and flora in Africa, in particular the preservation of the giraffes of the Koure reserve in Niger and the discovery of their secrets. Unfortunately, on the other hand, the African Martial Arts Festival in Kinshasa has been cancelled, disappointing both the athletes and the international artists scheduled for the event.

The news in the Democratic Republic of Congo is rich and varied, with both positive and negative events, but always interesting to follow
