As part of the restoration of lasting peace in eastern DRC, the UN Secretary-General’s special envoy for the Great Lakes region, Huang Xia, met with the new coordinator of the Mechanism national monitoring body for the Addis Ababa framework agreement, Alphonse Ntumba Luaba. Their meeting on June 14 in Kinshasa had the main objective of finding the means to consolidate the said framework agreement.

According to Alphonse Ntumba Luaba, it is important that all the signatory countries of this agreement respect their commitments, in particular that concerning non-interference in the affairs of other States. This initiative tends to restore confidence between these countries, in order to promote the return of peace and the sustainable development of the region.

The consolidation of this framework agreement should allow a harmonization of views to better manage the security situation in the DRC. This search for peace is a constant quest, because it requires the achievement of several objectives, including that of the full sovereignty of the States and the preservation of the interests of each State signatory to this agreement.
