Attack against Augustin Matata’s brother: Martin Fayulu and Moïse Katumbi condemn this climate of terror in the DRC

Recently, the former Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Augustin Matata, warned of the aggression of his brother, Matata Tambwe, in Lubumbashi. On his Twitter account, the president of Leadership and Governance for Development (LGD) indicated that armed men beat up his little brother at his home, stating that the attackers confused Matata Tambwe with his brother Augustin Matata and that they had purpose of killing him.

In a statement of solidarity, Moïse Katumbi, president of Ensemble pour la République, called on the competent authorities to prosecute those responsible for this heinous act: “If we want to spare the DRC from falling into a spiral of violence, the perpetrators of the attack on Matata’s brother must be prosecuted,” he stressed.

For his part, Martin Fayulu, president of ECIDÉ, accused the current power of playing the arsonist by creating a “climate of terror” as the elections approach. He affirms that despite these bullying and attacks, the determination and the will of the opposition to make Félix Tshisekedi leave no later than January 24, 2024, cannot be undermined.

This kind of recurring attacks against political figures or their families worries more and more Congolese. It is important that the competent authorities take measures to ensure the safety of all citizens, regardless of family or political affiliation.
