In a press release issued this Friday, August 18, 2023 in Goma, Lieutenant-General Constant Ndima, Military Governor of North Kivu, expressed his gratitude to all the delegates who participated in the Round Table on the state of siege held in Kinshasa from August 14 to 16, 2023. This meeting, initiated by the President of the Republic Félix Tshisekedi, aimed to discuss the security situation in the region.

The Governor, however, strongly condemned the acts of intimidation and manipulation on social networks aimed at discrediting certain delegates who expressed divergent opinions during the Round Table. He stresses that such acts are not only offenses, but they also disturb public order and the tranquility of the population. He therefore calls on citizens to show restraint and assures that offenders will be severely punished in accordance with the law.

At the same time, the Governor recalls that the security services have been instructed to work for social peace and peaceful coexistence, despite existing differences, with the ultimate goal of achieving effective and lasting peace in the North Kivu province.

Importantly, Lieutenant-General Constant Ndima recently declared that he was ready to hand over the management of the province to civilians if the president, using his discretionary power, asked him to do so. This declaration demonstrates its desire to promote democracy and the participation of citizens in the management of public affairs.

In conclusion, the condemnation of the military governor in the face of acts of intimidation and manipulation on social networks demonstrates his commitment to transparency and respect for divergent opinions. He calls for restraint and peaceful coexistence, highlighting the importance of achieving lasting peace in the North Kivu region. His openness to entrusting the management of the province to civilians also demonstrates his commitment to democracy and citizen participation
