The fight against road insecurity and incivility on the roads has become a major priority in many countries, and the Province of Kongo Central in the DRC is no exception. Under the impetus of Governor Dr Guy BANDU NDUNGIDI, a series of strict measures have been put in place, including the use of innovative technology: speed radar.
The speed radar, a device installed on the edge of the roadway, makes it possible to control the speed of vehicles in the most dangerous areas. It instantly calculates the speed of vehicles passing in front of it, either from the front or from behind. This technology can quickly detect drivers who are driving at excessive speed, helping to reduce road accidents.
To test the effectiveness of this device, a mission was organized in Kisantu and Mbanza-Ngungu, thus offering a first use of this technology in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This key step will make it possible to measure the concrete results and decide on the official commissioning of the speed camera.
The acquisition of these devices is part of the dynamics of the “Zero Tolerance” campaign initiated by Governor Dr Guy BANDU NDUNGIDI. This campaign aims to make drivers aware of the dangers of excessive speed and the importance of respecting road safety rules. It was also accompanied by fruitful exchanges with the national authorities to obtain their support in the implementation of these measures.
Beyond simple repression, this campaign emphasizes prevention and education. Special brigades will be formed to ensure the effective use of speed radar and to ensure that drivers respect speed limits. Awareness-raising actions will also be carried out with drivers to encourage them to adopt responsible behavior on the roads.
By introducing this advanced technology, the Province of Kongo Central is positioning itself as a true pioneer in road safety in the DRC. This initiative will reduce road accidents, save lives and ensure the safety of road users.
The installation of speed cameras is a significant advance in the fight against road insecurity. By combining repression and awareness, the Province of Kongo Central is showing its determination to create safer roads for all and to establish a culture of responsible driving. The success of this approach will depend on the commitment of all stakeholders, from authorities to drivers, road safety associations and citizens
