The construction of a road to open up Espace Kasaï, linking Kananga to the port of Lobito in Angola, is progressing rapidly. Of the 286 km of this crucial road axis, 93 km have already been opened, according to the provincial executive of Kasaï Central. This significant step forward is the result of work carried out by the company Arabcontractor, in charge of this route of hope.
The opening of this road is of capital importance for Espace Kasaï, which had been landlocked for many years. Until now, the region could only open up to the outside via Haut-Katanga or Kongo Central. Thanks to this new road, cross-border trade between Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo will be greatly facilitated.
The President of the Republic, Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, had made this road a priority, aware of the expectations of the population of Espace Kasaï. By launching the works in 2022, he wanted to meet the needs of opening up this central region of the country to the sea.
During an inspection visit to the construction sites, the governor of Kasaï Central province, John Kabeya Shikayi, praised the excellent work carried out by the Arabcontractor company and underlined the importance of respecting the delivery times of this road expected by the population.
Alongside this access road, construction work on the Kananga-Kalambambuji-Mayi road, 230 km long, is also underway. This other crucial route will connect Espace Kasaï to the Angolan port of Lobito, thus opening up new prospects for the economic development of the region.
This progress in the road infrastructure sector is a significant step towards opening up Espace Kasaï and will promote trade with Angola
