“Speed cameras: A new weapon against road insecurity in Kongo Central in the DRC”

Advances in technology have transformed many aspects of our daily lives, and road safety is no exception. In the province of Kongo Central in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Governor Dr Guy BANDU NDUNGIDI has decided to use a new technology to fight against road insecurity and incivility on the National Number One. This is the use of speed cameras, a first in the DRC.

These speed radars are devices installed on the edge of the roadway that make it possible to control the speed of vehicles in the most dangerous areas of the road. Thanks to sophisticated technology, these radars are able to instantly calculate the speed of a vehicle as it passes, whether from the front or from behind.

The Governor’s initiative aims to strengthen road safety measures already in place in the province. Indeed, the latter had recently promulgated 18 road safety measures which will come into force in a strict manner. With the installation of speed cameras, vehicle speed control will be even more precise and dissuasive.

A test mission has already been organized to assess the effectiveness of these speed cameras. This mission enabled the Provincial Authority to observe the excesses and abuses of speed by road users. On the strength of the positive results of this experiment, the Provincial Government plans to put these speed cameras into service in the near future, thanks to its own funds.

The next step will be to sign a partnership with the company supplying the radars and to set up a brigade responsible for the use of these devices on National Road One.

The acquisition of these speed cameras is part of the “Zero Tolerance” campaign launched by Governor Dr Guy BANDU NDUNGIDI. This campaign aims to raise citizens’ awareness of the importance of respecting road safety rules and to strengthen measures to control and repress dangerous behavior on the road.

By using this new technology, the Provincial Government of Kongo Central hopes to significantly reduce the number of road accidents and promote a culture of road safety among the population.

The installation of speed cameras is an innovative initiative in the DRC and bears witness to Governor Dr Guy BANDU NDUNGIDI’s commitment to making road safety a priority in his province. This measure is also proof of the growing importance of technological advances in solving social and environmental problems.

In conclusion, the use of speed cameras in the province of Kongo Central in the DRC marks an important step forward in the fight against road insecurity and incivility on the roads.. This new technology will make it possible to control the speed of vehicles more effectively, thereby deterring dangerous behavior. This is a concrete example of the positive impact that technological advances can have on our safety and quality of life
