The role of economic operators in the protection of people and property: a call from President Tshisekedi

President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi recently appealed to economic operators in the Democratic Republic of Congo to assume their civil responsibility for the protection of people and property. This call follows the tragic fire of a tanker truck in Kinshasa, which claimed the lives of five people and caused extensive material damage.

He lamented that their frantic pursuit of trade margins and reckless profits leads to situations where the state must bear the consequences of the damages caused by their negligence and refusal to comply with the regulations in force.

President Tshisekedi insisted on the need for all economic operators, whether small or large, to integrate a responsible approach into their management. According to him, efficient and rational management of activities is based on the pooling of risks and the regular modernization of production tools. He therefore urged economic operators to integrate these principles into their behavior as business leaders.

To make this call a reality, the President asked the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Economy, in collaboration with the Ministers of Finance and Transport, to organize a meeting with the various corporations of economic operators in the passenger transport sector. and goods. This meeting will discuss the importance of taking out professional insurance and regularly undergoing technical inspections of light and heavy vehicles.

According to the government spokesperson, this tragic incident caused by the defect of heavy transport trucks highlights the challenges faced by transport economic operators in the DRC. It is essential that the public authorities act with firmness and consistency to ensure compliance with vehicle technical inspection standards and the obligation to take out professional insurance.

This appeal by President Tshisekedi underlines the importance of collaboration between public authorities and economic operators to ensure the safety of people and the protection of property. It highlights the responsibility incumbent on each economic actor to contribute to the sustainable development of the country and guarantee the security of all
