“Round table on the state of siege in the DRC: MP Munubo recommends lifting and accompanying measures”

Today, we are going to tackle a hot topic: the round table on the state of siege in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The national deputy Juvénal Munubo Mubi spoke at the end of this work, sharing his analysis and his recommendations.

According to Munubo, the majority of the participants in the round table expressed their desire to lift the state of siege, in force for more than two years in the provinces of Ituri and North Kivu. He is convinced that President Félix Tshisekedi, known to listen to the population, will react favorably to this request.

However, Munubo stresses that lifting the state of siege alone will not be enough to bring peace. It insists on the need to put in place support measures, in particular the strengthening of the action of the Congolese armed forces (FARDC), the effective organization of military operations, the implementation of the disarmament program, the consolidation of relations between civilians and the military, and the proper functioning of military and civilian justice.

Munubo goes even further by offering to assess the DRC’s military partnerships with other states and organizations, in order to understand their effectiveness and adjust them if necessary.

As for the question of the deadline for the Head of State’s response to the recommendations of the round table, Munubo believes that it will depend on Felix Tshisekedi’s agenda, but that the general wish is to see the state of siege lifted on as quickly as possible.

In conclusion, the round table on the state of siege in the DRC provided an opportunity to discuss the strengths, weaknesses and prospects of this exceptional measure. Delegates expressed their desire to lift the state of siege, but stressed the need to put in place accompanying measures to guarantee peace. Now, it is up to President Tshisekedi to make his decision taking into account the recommendations made during this round table.
