Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo – Opposition leader Martin Fayulu returned home on Wednesday after spending a few weeks in the United States. Fayulu was received by a crowd of enthusiastic supporters at N’djili International Airport. He made the trip to seek pressure from Washington on Kinshasa for credible elections in December 2023 and to expose potential electoral fraud that the CENI is planning to benefit the Tshisekedi regime, sources say.
The longtime political opponent said it was time to put an end to the “election sham” once and for all and that the upcoming elections must be free, transparent and credible. Fayulu added that his platform, the Citizen Engagement Party for Development (ECIDE), was ready to actively participate in the 2023 elections.
However, the recent 2018 presidential election currency was tainted with alleged fraud. Fayulu then claimed that Felix Tshisekedi, the candidate declared the winner of the election, had reached a secret agreement with former President Joseph Kabila to defeat his own candidacy.
Fayulu returning on the eve of the opposition meeting scheduled for Saturday in Ndjili Sainte Thérèse, there is a good chance that he will join the other opposition politicians, campaigning for free and credible elections in 2023
