The Congolese Minister of Communication and Media, Patrick Muyaya Katembwe, officially launched the competition for the 2nd edition of the Henriette Eke Prize of the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) at the Espace Prof Malembe of the ‘IFASIC. This competition is open to media professionals from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who have until September 30, 2023 to submit their applications. The theme chosen this year is to put an end to gender-based violence in the DRC, in tribute to Henriette EKE, a renowned midwife who dedicated her life to teaching the profession of midwifery and to the fight against maternal and infant mortality.
To this end, the competition aims to encourage journalists and other media professionals to work together to end gender-based violence in the country. In addition to prestige, winners will also receive a cash prize.
The jury will be composed of the faculty of communication and experienced professionals in the field of gender issues in the DRC, such as professors Madeleine Mbongo Pasi, Arthur Mandeko and Mayala.
Minister Muyaya urged all media actors to participate in the competition in order to contribute to the fight against the different forms of gender-based violence in the DRC.
In addition to this competition, the DRC faces many other challenges such as security in the east of the country, the end of the MONUSCO mission, child labor, health as well as politics and political movements. like the REPOP.
As a democratic country in Africa, the DRC must meet these challenges for its economic development and to strengthen peace and stability in the country. Journalists have an important role to play in highlighting these issues and promoting lasting solutions.
