Promoting the rights of the DRC’s indigenous populations: an essential mission for a sustainable future
The issue of protecting the rights of indigenous peoples is a hot topic in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). These indigenous peoples, considered the guardians of the forests of the Congo Basin, face many challenges and their rights are often violated. Urgent action is needed to promote their rights and ensure their participation in the management of natural resources.
In a recent interview with Patrick Kipalu, Director of Africa Programs at the Rights and Natural Resources Initiative (RRI), we explored the actions needed to advance the cause of indigenous peoples in the DRC.

The media, civil society organizations and government institutions have a key role to play in disseminating information and raising public awareness on this issue.
Finally, it is essential to strengthen collaboration between different stakeholders, including indigenous peoples, local communities, non-governmental organizations and government authorities. Working together will make it possible to find sustainable solutions that respect the rights of indigenous populations and are beneficial for the conservation of biodiversity and sustainable development.
